Proclaimer of the Word: Lector

“…in receiving the Word of God from hearing us, you received not a human word but, as it truly is,
the Word of God, which is now at work in you who believe.” (Thessalonians 2:13)

Lectors exercise the ministry of proclaiming the Word of God to the people during the Liturgy.  Since Lectors are “proclaimers” not simply readers of the written word, preparation in advance is required.  Lectors are expected to fulfill assigned commitments, attend on-going training and faith formation, and become familiar with Sacred Scripture and how it is related to the Liturgical year.  Qualified candidates who have been trained will be certified by the Diocese of Phoenix for a period of three years.
If you are a faithful, active member of your parish, are at least 16 years of age and have received the Sacraments of Initiation (Baptism, Eucharist and Confirmation), you are qualified to be trained and certified as a Lector. Please contact the Liturgy office for information about serving in this ministry.
